General
This Symposium was convened in Tagaytay City, the Philippines, from 8-9 December 2015, spearheaded by the Philippines Permanent Mission to ASEAN. The Symposium emphasised the potential contribution of women and children as strong tools of peacebuilding, rather than perceived as mere victims. It also provided an avenue for discussion on best practices in promoting the welfare of women and children in conflict situations, both through domestic and regional lenses.
Some recommendation produced including a call to undertake greater efforts at implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women Peace & Security (WPS), continue the regional effort in gender mainstreaming agenda particularly in the field of humanitarian assistance, and advance research through developing reliable gender-aggregated data to analyse the impact of conflict to women and children.
