2nd Leg Training of the Mainstreaming Peace & Reconciliation in Southeast Asia: An ASEAN-IPR Training Series - Ceasefires and Development for Local Communities in Peacebuilding

General

The 2nd Leg of the Training Series was held on 25-27 October 2023 in Bali, Indonesia, with the theme “Ceasefire and Development for Local Communities in Peacebuilding”. The Training aimed to enhance the capacities of junior to mid-level government officials from ASEAN Member States in mainstreaming peace and reconciliation in ASEAN countries. It also aimed to build knowledge, understanding and appreciation of conflict and peace dynamics in the region; including individual states’ experiences with ceasefires, development, and community-based peacebuilding.

The three-day training was attended by a total of fifty-six (56) participants and conducted in three parts through an interactive learning approach, using a mixture of tools to optimise participation and interaction amongst the participants.

General Objective

The general objective of the 2nd Leg Training was to enhance the capacities of junior to middle-level government officials from AMS as duty bearers in mainstreaming peace and reconciliation in ASEAN countries.

Specific Objective

  1. To enhance knowledge and understanding of peace and conflict dynamics, peacebuilding, and post-conflict peacebuilding in the Southeast Asian context.
  2. To increase understanding of ceasefire processes and build knowledge and awareness of ceasefire experiences from within and outside Southeast Asia.
  3. To increase understanding and appreciation of peacebuilding and development processes in conflict-affected communities, highlighting the roles of local actors.
  4. To enhance creative and analytical skills on peacebuilding, development, and conflict management through problem-solving group activities.
