General
Close to 200 attendees participated in the third Session of the ASEAN-IPR Discussion Series in 2022. This Session mainly focused on discussing the correlation between human rights and peace, bearing in mind that human rights violations could simultaneously cause, trigger, and result in violence and conflict.
Throughout the Session, each speaker shared their perspective and understanding on how human rights should be protected and promoted by looking at the possibility to translate the universal human rights norms at regional and national levels. Moreover, the speakers also highlighted five essential elements for society’s transition in human rights mechanisms – namely truth, justice, reparation, guarantee of non-recurrence, and memorialisation.
